"democracy can work fine! we just need people to vote better!" That kind of thing really isn't cute any more.
It means that the system is beyond repair. Arguing about what candidates people should vote for is useless, indeed harmful.
That seems a rather fatalistic sentiment. I think it's, at the least, functional. With what would you replace our lame democracy?

American federalism allows for a pluralism of forms of government. Republic-of-Venice-style oligarchy? Theocracy?
