Netflix took away communal tv watching. There is no longer any urgency to watch shows which means people can't really discuss them.

But Netflix isn't pulling away the mass audience, is it? Cord-cutters tend to be the ones watching "elite" shows.

To be honest, I don't remember people at work *ever* discussing TV drama. Sports & Reality TV, sure.

When I was in corp IT back in early 90s, we discussed STNG episodes every week at the department meeting.

I entered the workforce in '94. I think it was dying by then. I associate it with 80s, Dallas etc.
