Ok guys I have an idea about how to improve how our elections are run. (Thread!

Giving the politics side of the equation much more detailed expression will just expose much more that it's all fundamentally irrelevant. And I don't mean that "politicians are corrupt" or anything like that, just that the problems of government have little to do with politics.
-
Take the "windrush" episode. The issue is that the Home Office doesn't know who has been here for 60 years and two generations, and who arrived last Tuesday. The politics is all "be nice to people" or "clamp down on immigration", but none of that translates to action.

What if we have systems and mechanisms which link these two sides? The elected rep is tightly linked to the elected official and vice versa. Both need to work together and support each other. Part of the problem is information asymmetry.
-
Information asymmetry is true, but it's putting it mildly. In politicians' memoirs, it's clear that even they are struggling to master the actual government questions they have to answer, so passing those difficulties on to voters is really not helping
-
Do we need to reimagine what an "elected rep", i.e. the politician should be. Why are they standing for elections and acting as "people's representatives" if they are not sufficiently informed and empowered to meaningfully answer questions.
