I don't care about defending the legal system, but everyone who makes these false claims is discrediting themselves and playing into the hands of those who claim that opponents of mass immigration are crazy.
Claim 1 in the text is simply false. Everyone involved in publishing news knows you can't ever do what he did. Claim 2 is because he's done it before, and you always get off much lighter for a first offence...
"The facts": Thousands of rapes, true. The press did report it, from 2011, but even then the state did nothing because they said it was just the "right-wing" press stirring up the race issue. All these cases are open to public scrutiny exactly like every other UK trial.
All of them are reported when they finish exactly like every other newsworthy UK trial http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-41608602 …http://www.itv.com/news/2017-08-09/eighteen-convicted-in-newcastle-sex-grooming-network/ …
There may still be gangs being played down and covered up, and they need to be exposed. Blatantly false claims that the cases that have actually produced arrests and prosecutions are being covered up distracts from that important fact.
If you were just wrong, (and I'm really talking to @xctlot here because he's OK and I follow him), I wouldn't care. People are wrong all the time.
But everyone can see you're wrong and therefore you are discrediting yourself and the cause you argue for.
The important part here is the moral claim, not the legal details of specifically why he is being punished.
The central claim is that the Leeds case is being hushed up for political reasons, and that claim, while apparently plausible, is false, and will be seen to be false as soon as the case is finished as is widely publicised.
I really don't see how that's objectively debatable. The run up pre-prosecution clearly constitutes suppression. The fact that they have a facile legal claim of why everyone should remain silent during the trial does not make it non political.
Everything will be reported in massive detail on front pages of newspapers, and by any member of the public who happens to be interested, in a matter of weeks. If they're suppressing stuff for political reasons, they're doing a terrible job of it
