Claim 1 in the text is simply false. Everyone involved in publishing news knows you can't ever do what he did. Claim 2 is because he's done it before, and you always get off much lighter for a first offence...
Maybe there's a better way of managing jury trials. Maybe they should be able to gather any information they want, maybe they should be kept in hotel rooms without phones for the duration, I don't know or much care.

But claiming that a long-standing detail of court procedure, widely accepted and universally applied, is a POLICE STATE HELLHOLE completely detracts from any worthwhile criticism of the horrendous situation that this trial is an example of.
