I spent a chunk of the weekend arguing with people suffering or perpetrating misunderstandings over the Tommy Robinson events. Don't let free decentralized media get at the voters -- that's "fake news". Don't let free decentralized media get at jurors -- that "prejudices a trial". -- This entire mind-control apparatus is a pre-Internet relic that's crumbling into pieces on all fronts.

That's an entirely false equivalence. Fake news is the complaint that outsiders do the media's job. Jury tampering is the complaint that outsiders do what nobody is allowed to do.

The equivalence is based on the common (and unsustainable) assumption that there is such a thing as an untampered population. It's some kind of Garden of Eden fantasy.

... Even those who think it would have been better if commoners had never begun to read the Bible have to accept that isn't the way things went.

Well if this becomes the new normal, you will be proved right. On the other hand, if all this is forgotten in 12 months, all that will have happened is that a bunch of people who ranted about "secret trials" will have lost a lot of credibility.
