Claire’s explaining that this is the business end. Here the ion beam is focussed to just a few microns thick. Where you see that dark vertical plate is where the art goes to get zapped. 7/pic.twitter.com/OKnTsgRhsd

WOW, thanks for all the
for this thread! I’m not usually hanging out in the Louvre’s basement, but I’m always podcasting about science HERE: http://undiscoveredpodcast.org

@undiscoveredpod
I took the same picture of this thing. Greetings from Chile! (although I'm still in Lausanne).
Your pics are probably better! I’m a pretty lousy photographer. Bon Voyage!!!
Thank you so much for this thread! One of the most fascinating things I have ever read!!
You’re so welcome!
Thanks for sharing and allowing me to enjoy a glimpse of the experience vicariously.
You’re so welcome!
We also have pretty pictures in our linear accelerator bunkers to make us feel better about being in a basement bunker! Very interesting thread!
Ok so this is the best thread on twitter. Ever! My dream job was to do this for artworks. I did my PhD in X-Ray crystallography and before that I worked with American natural museums to analyse different types of funky rock samples. I’m smiling so much right now
I mean, those jobs ALSO sound really cool?
