We had a neighbor who was a Trumpster long before Trumpism. Trump gave people like him legitimacy and a platform. I’d be surprised if my former neighbor wasn’t at Wednesday’s riot.

I have mixed feelings about profiles like this. Knowing how someone gets brainwashed can be helpful when devising ways to address the huge issue we have in our society. But this focus on individual insurgents helps create the martyrs for movement.

Any cults and extremist movements.. Any “fringe movement” thats leaning to telling ppl about extremely (simple) solutions to complex problems.. (including “thoughts and prayers” type fundi-religious dogma of all religions)

Exactly this, a few years ago we worried about how to "deprogram" or deradicalise ex Scientologists or Islamic fundamentalists. Unfortunately it looks like we have the same problem with Trump supporters, only on a much larger scale
