There’s a worldwide trend of increased nationalism and populism, with the associated fear mongering of immigrants and the like. It’s truly depressing. Here in Canada we can see it twice, both here in Quebec and in Canada in general. Is anywhere not going through this?

Just to reassure you Mike, the National Party in Ireland, which campaigned on an anti-immigrant ticket, has failed to return a single candidate. It is polling at around 1%. 1% too much of course.

I'm an American living in Ireland the past 12 years. This article presents a distorted view to fit a nationalism narrative. The truth is the Irish election was a rejection of the status quo, but based on issues of a broken health system and a housing crisis not nationalism.

Sinn Féin's rise is not driven by nationalism, but by a fatigue with austerity and the inequality of the recovery. There is no inspiration from narrow English nationalism which is seen as the most idiotic movement in recent history.
