Our Dominionists would be fine with the real "utopia" proposed by Ivan llyin -- Just with the Stars and Stripes instead of Russia's banner. Anyone who thinks the ideas of DeMaistre aren't current ought to think again.

Spot-on observations, Anne. I recommend to anyone who reads this important article to seriously read, cover to cover, the indispensable book by late personality-theorist Erich Fromm, “Escape From Freedom” (or Fear Of Freedom), a very astute analysis of this very phenomenon.

I reread this book once every decade, just because his observations are timeless and he wrote so well and comprehensively. (And because he, too, is from Frankfurt!).
