This is an incredible read, but the weaponisation of social media for obsessive harassment and abuse won’t be unfamiliar to many in the public eye.

This is an extreme case, but it's not an unfamiliar phenomenon: it feels like the ultimate form of the obsessive "truthtelling outsider" shtick that a lot of professionally frustrated people (mostly men) have turned into their social media brand theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/o

New: Boris Johnson has been personally calling Tory MPs from his holiday in a bid to secure their backing, @camillahmturner has been told. He promised one MP that there would be a "different culture" in Downing Street if he becomes PM again. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/

Why is anyone listening to the guy who gifted 90% ownership of the Redcar steel site for free to Tory donors, with no procurement process, who have now already made at least Β£22m out of it…?

Why is Boris Johnson on holiday? Parliament is not in recess. How was he representing the good folk of Uxbridge in the Dominican Republic? And people seriously believe he’s committed to running the country.

The tens of thousands of people who lost loved ones to COVID will be sick with rage at even the possibility that Johnson could even be a contender.

I don’t fear him as an election winner (let’s be honest about who he has had to beat so far). I fear the effect he has on decency, morality, honesty and integrity in public life and the resulting effect on our democracy.

Absolute nonsense about 'the left fearing Johnson'. I certainly don't. I think that by far the best leader for the Tories would be Sunak. I think Johnson will be a disaster again and lead them to a GE defeat. I thought the Conservative Party was better than this. It isn't.

Tory shambles creating more insecurity. Yet again the country suffers for their self-indulgence.

My grandfather and his colleagues from Barry police station were sent to help in the aftermath. I can’t even imagine the horror they felt that day, and the anguish and despair the families must have lived through. #Aberfan #NeverForget

Now in 1966, to the minute, 116 children & 28 adults were buried alive in a primary school in Aberfan, S Wales as a collapsing colliery slag heap caused a massive landslide. The teacher David Beynon was found, braced against his blackboard, with five little children in his arms

A former minister just suggested β€˜the four big beasts’ get together and settle on the next PM. Think about that a sec. 48m had a say in the 3rd PM ago. 150k Tory members on the last. Now they want 4 people to settle it. Notice the direction of travel? #GeneralElectionNow

Only a nation which was gripped by pessimistic despair and no longer believed that there could be a serious response to its unfolding tragedies would want to take refuge in the leadership of a clown.

One senior Labour source salivating at the prospect of Johnson redux: "In some sense, him running is the dream. Droning on about how they need a sensible, serious person to fix the mess they've made then that honking pudding turns up with his travelling circus trailing behind"
