    Mali IS unprepared for elections, but not for the reasons the PM says. As I talk about in the piece, the Malian army had (predictably) hijacked the "transition" from the jump. A broader issue is the perils of holding up elections as the only yardstick for political legitimacy.

    Mali's post-coup PM stated the country could delay next year's presidential and legislative elections, and Russia's FM claimed Mali had requested the Wagner group's assistance. explained last week why both would be bad news for Malians.
