One of the reasons there's a stereotype of #ADHD being a “boys” thing is bc generally girls/women’s symptoms tend to manifest inwardly & often don’t “affect” others. As a result, faaar fewer girls get diagnosed as children, thus needlessly suffering in silence their whole lives.

And it doesn’t end there. Even if they DO get diagnosed, they still don’t get the same treatment. A Dutch medical study found: - 47% of boys got medication for their #ADHD. - But only 6% of girls. - 38% of boys got education, info & support for ADHD. - But only 8% of girls.

Legit. I'm going through the diagnosis process now and they are constantly saying "ooh that sounds rough but unfortunately you handle these symptoms so well that we probably shouldn't diagnose you, since you don't seem to need help" and I'm like I JUST WANT SOME HELP

SERIOUSLY. I've heard this from several people. This was me too until this year - I was coping fine, until I no longer wasn't. At some point it becomes too much & things fall apart, bc we don't have the same prerequisites as neurotypicals. Also, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO "JUST COPE"!!

yeah - and I/we should still get access to help with classes, resources, tweaks to meds, etc. that can help us NOT NEED TO COPE AS MUCH cuz dang does it take a lot of energy, patience, practice, time, oh and more energy.

And instead we go around wondering why we're so exhausted all the time. "People with ADHD are three to six times more likely to suffer from burnout or stress-related health problems." 3-6 TIMES?! Holy crap! Why are we not diagnosing & supporting BEFORE they inevitably burn out?
