One of the reasons there's a stereotype of #ADHD being a “boys” thing is bc generally girls/women’s symptoms tend to manifest inwardly & often don’t “affect” others. As a result, faaar fewer girls get diagnosed as children, thus needlessly suffering in silence their whole lives.

And it doesn’t end there. Even if they DO get diagnosed, they still don’t get the same treatment. A Dutch medical study found: - 47% of boys got medication for their
#ADHD. - But only 6% of girls. - 38% of boys got education, info & support for ADHD. - But only 8% of girls.5 odpowiedzi 3 podane dalej 39 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -

Legit. I'm going through the diagnosis process now and they are constantly saying "ooh that sounds rough but unfortunately you handle these symptoms so well that we probably shouldn't diagnose you, since you don't seem to need help" and I'm like I JUST WANT SOME HELP

I'm really thankful for women being open about their ADHD lately. Otherwise, I would likely never have even considered that I might have it too - the symptoms are so different from the stereotype. However I probably wouldn't get help either because of all the coping mechanisms

Yep, and these coping mechanisms are exactly why we don't get diagnosed. Bc we suffer silently (inwardly) not realising we're struggling in ways others aren't — and simply find our own ways of dealing with things. Thank you Anna
It was actually you who first got me thinking about this. At first I was like "pffft, I do all that too and I don't have ADHD", and then "waaaait a minute..."
