I learned recently another reason is that most ADHD research (if not all) was done on boys until early 2000s(!!) Meaning, that a lot of girls went undetected because the knowledge of their symptoms wasn't there hence why so many of us gets diagnosed now later in life.
Yuuuuup! Same problems as with the diagnostics for autism - they literally didn't have a diagnostic criteria for girls until extremely recently too. Which is not only disastrous, but also incredibly sad.
I haven't made any research in that direction, but is it possible that boys are just more prone to suffer from autism? Like colourblinds? I might be wrong, but these numbers seem a bit too extreme to be explainable by sexism only.
Hmmm not that extreme if you think of it in the lack of research point of view! From my understanding, the girls who gets diagnosed early and quickly are the ones who have the "tipycal boys" ADHD traits.
