Omg... "Vacuum cleaners" are called "dust-suckers" in Swedish and "straws" are literally translated as "suction-pipes" and I am wheezing because I have said these words my whole life and not once reflected on them.

Ladybug: Key maiden

How about Turd Town. This is the literal translation of probably 10-15% of Icelandic farms (and kinda true as it comes from them being big and successful and having enough cows to cover their fields every year with dung, for better crops...)
The bat has a version in Hungarian which calls the Leather-mouse!
The washy bear is the same.
However we call the ladybugs "Catherine-bugs"
We have a nursery rhyme where you sing to the catherine bug that she should fly away because the turks are coming for her.
Then the song is about various tortures she would have to endure if she would have been caught.

I google translated that, and "truthahn" became very vulgar in dutch/german...
I just love that the English word "hippopotamus" comes from the ancient Greek "hippus" (horse) and "potamus" (river) ... which then becomes obvious it came via Swedish from our old friend Carl Linnaeus! So basically, we indirectly got "flodhäst" in English without realising!
