This is exactly why I go in and mute profiles of people that I know are bad people. I know that my brain's working memory literally doesn't function, so this is my coping mechanism that I've put into place to help it.

Good idea. But if I've forgotten that I followed them before they were exposed... Then I'm probably still following them, even if I find out that they're a bad person. I just don't groom who I follow very often...

Yeah fair enough. I guess I just have a habit of going "Oh shit, news about X person, off to their Twitter I go to set a reminder for future me!"
