Object permanence and ADHD brains is totally a thing. We forget to check in with friends/family constantly. It doesn't mean we love them any less, but if something isn't literally right in front of us, we just... forget. Brain is simply focused on what IS right in front of us.

Yep. We have no concept of time. Everything we do is either NOW or NOT NOW. (I assume by the way you write that you also have ADHD?)

I do — in my mid-40s, diagnosed formally about 3 years ago. Still working on tools and growing with it.

It's SO real, both with friends and tasks. When my partner (who is great and supportive) asks why I don't have more urgency about something like cleaning the garage, I've tried to explain, "Because it literally doesn't exist when I'm not looking at it."
