From hiring experience - no photo, no home address, include your phone number and linkedin page. I expect them to be 3-4 paragraphs and I want it to show you've read the JD and know a little bit about the company. Link your previous skills to this role and tailor it each time

Also I don't mind some colour or design choices that make them interesting to read but please no graphs, graphs don't do much to explain your capabilities to me. For construction - I really enjoy when people include some photos of their previous projects, it shows you're proud!

True, Country, industry, type of job, it changes a lot. I probably reviewed 200+ CVs is the past 7 years, and the ones I found most fascinating are from South America, they get really creative there, also Cover Letters are not a worldwide thing, I surprised with that :)

Yeah, I don't like cover letters tbh. They're just lip-service about how much you want the job and how talented you are - as if that wasn't clear enough already: You're applying for the job, and here's your CV. Everything you say in a cover letter should already be in your CV.

I was always told, for UK jobs at least, that it should include an objective, experience with responsibilities, skills, education and sometimes also hobbies. And recommended not to use a photo.

I’ve never gotten a job from applying normally with a cv. I’ve only gotten employed via headhunting so my input in this convo might not be valid. But my CV is American style: one page, with phone number, nationality for work rights, experience, awards, publications.

I use the cover letter to show that I’ve read the job description and am interested in the company. And I might attach examples of my work if it’s relevant to the job, but I don’t have a portfolio ready to send… I should make one though.

I’ve also noticed that! I think in the US one page is preferred but in Sweden 2 pages may still be ok?

I think this is often because of a few reasons, but basically boils down to not taking up too much of the interviewer's time
