In 1982, she learned she couldn't have kids, and hit depression. She tackled the situation, surely dark at home, with her usual grace and aplomb, but as think of how weird it was to talk about something like that 38 years ago? REVOLUTIONARY. Women were seeing her talk about it

She went on to recover her back catalog, not an easy thing for a "Dumb Blonde" to do.

In 1986, she used her fame and money to open Dollywood, which seemed like a vanity project but brought a vital economy to rural Tennessee.

In 1991, Dolly Parton launched the Buddy Program that made you & one other sign a contract that both you and your buddy must graduate and upon completion you would both receive $500. This caused the drop-out rate to go down to 6%.

She established the Imagination Library in 1995, which now sends about 1.3 million books to kids in need. For free. No questions asked.

In 2016, after the Nashville wildfires razed the area around Dollywood, she donated  via the ‘My People Fund’ $1,000 a month to all families who lost their homes in the fire. In total, she helped more than 900 families and raised over $9 million

She grants scholarships on the regular, to kids in her home place of Sevier County, Tennessee.

Pop trivia time: She is an uncredited producer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv version) and godmother to Miley Cyrus and the world's first cloned sheep was named for her.
