WOW. @PlayVALORANT's own exec producer @RiotSuperCakes won't solo queue because of the harassment women repeatedly face.
How are we gamedevs working to fix this issue, particularly in games that require voice comms? And how can we protect those affected?https://www.pcgamer.com/au/valorant-executive-producer-wont-solo-queue-because-of-the-harassment-women-face/ …

Unfortunately, it will take retraining of the audience more than the developer's actions. The toxicity is often accepted as 'that's what X is like', rather than people actively rejecting it. It's infuriating and exhausting.

Agreed. But if developers do nothing (or v little) then the impression is that that behaviour is condoned - ie nothing changes. As makers of the medium, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of our consumers using our products. We need to be the ones setting the standard.

Indeed. Removing people's accounts is likely the only thing that people like this understand. Making verbal abuse a strictly punished activity also helps. The culture of 'boys will be boys' is endemic to society, though. Not just games.

Totally. We as a society need to be better in how we raise and educate our young boys. We need to collectively expect better behaviour from boys and men everywhere.
