In this (gorgeous) collection of LoL infographics by @Celianna_C, this statistic in particular stood out: a THIRD of women have been sexually harassed during or after games.

Riot redid their honour system to encourage more positive behaviour, and while this definitely helped - toxicity & harassment is still so prevalent. And it's not just Riot - EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Valve, etc - everyone is struggling with the same issues. So how do we fix this?
I cannot fix it. But I can help by being a normal fuckin person in game; trying to give women I play with the kind of gaming experience I want for myself. Dudes who want better got to act better. Call out shitty behavior. Riot can help by putting a report option for misogyny
Having it in there explicitly is the first step. Players being told that sexism / misogyny is a bannable offense is important. Vague “verbal abuse / harassment / negative attitude” are not sufficient. Abusers will pretend it doesn’t apply to them.

I'd like think maybe just grow up, but apparently that's a big ask.
In all seriousness, tho. People get pissy when they think they're under friendly fire, and there's a lot of it (some real, even more perceived.) I'd like to think that the number of real problem ppl is small, but a huge number react very (very) poorly when they think 1/
It can't be a blanket, across the board solution that fails to acknowledge the gender problem. no honor system meant to improve toxicity in general will work for solving this type of harassment. Maybe give female players a rating system that heavily punishes toxic males? dunno
If we, as a developer community, really want to end this type of behaviour then we have to put our money where our mouths are and ban abusive players... regardless of how many that may be. Zero tolerance.
Anyone who flames gets insta banned. And anyone who is racist/homophobic/sexist gets ip banned so they can never play again
