Interesting how all the concerns for "historical accuracy" in video games only ever seem to come up when a major franchise lets you play as a minority or a woman.
You were more likely to die of an infection than of a sword, but sure tell me more about "historical accuracy"...

And that none of it comes from actual historians, but from people whose entire understanding of history is from seeing the same tropes play out in Hollywood movies (which historians will tell you are not even remotely true)
Absolutely this. They're conflating romanticised archetypes with what was actually a very diverse and complex reality. Games choosing to highlight some of the characters that made this era interesting rather than just regurgitating stereotypes is what's making them interesting.
