If companies' leadership was elected, like political leaders are, how would that affect society? How would it affect companies on a both large and small scale? And how would that affect the leadership style that people would try emulate?

That's a very good point. 
New rule: No campaigns. Your day to day performance throughout the year IS your campaign.
