It took me a bit to figure out that they're not saying any and all jokes about women aren't ok or aren't funny. There's still a time and a place for the battle of the sexes - dinner parties with a light hearted joke, banter with a close friend etc.

It just means that making light of the systematic and continued oppression of women through jokes about domestic violence is not ok, and just proves that much still needs to be done regarding equality.

40% of domestic violence victims are men.

You realise that wherever you got that statistic from, for whichever region or country, that means 60% are women right? 60 is more than 40. What is your point here?

That domestic violence isn't a gender specific problem.

First - nobody said that only women are victims of domestic violence, just overwhelmingly the majority and that making fun of that fact is not ok. Second - men also being in shitty relationships doesn't stop societal impressions toward female victims of domestic abuse being shit.

Third - the original thread makes a very decent point regarding this: https://twitter.com/utdgeorgia/status/1252329128113639426 … which had you read it you would already understand why pointing this out is unnecessary and seeks to distract from the reality of womens' rights in today's society.
