Hey #ADHD peeps in the UK! I have a couple of friends in London who suspect they might have ADHD but have no idea how to get diagnosed or medicated over there. How does one go about doing it all with your healthcare system? Comment with your best tips please!

I'm recently diagnosed and as others have mentioned, it's a long arduous process via the NHS. Went to GP who referred me to local services who put on 18 month waiting list for assessment. Chose to go costlier but faster route and found a private consultant with shared care plan

Ok thank you! How long did your private process take you?

I chose one who I could see locally in person so there was a wait of 6 weeks for the assessment and I've been having follow ups every 4-6 weeks since. Still trialing different meds, but it's such a huge relief to be getting the appropriate treatment now

That sounds great! And yay for getting good help! I've found that ritalin is working pretty well for me. I tried concerta here before which did nothing for me really, and I loved dexies which I tried in Australia, but they don't have them over here unfortunately :/ Ritalin tho

It's early days and the learning curve is steep but I'm hopeful, I have a map and compass rather than grasping blindly in the dark. Awesome to hear you've found ritalin helpful! Not available here unfortunately, only long acting stimulant meds are. Strattera next stop for me

So glad to hear that. Fingers crossed you find something that works well for you too!
