This article is me down to a T. I lived 32 years with ADHD and was only diagnosed last year. My life feels like it's been flipped on its head - but in an amazing way! If this piece resonates with you, please get yourself evaluated! Best thing I ever did.https://www.theguardian.com/society/commentisfree/2020/jan/15/a-new-life-being-diagnosed-with-adhd-in-my-40s-has-given-me-something-quite-magical …

If you're curious, here's a quick test. Ignore where it says to fill in your email and just go straight for the Get Results-button. If you happen to get a high score - go book in a time with your Dr and have a chat about it! BEST. THING. I. EVER. DID.

“Are you typically distracted (or find it hard to focus) when there is activity or noise around you?” - a spot the sound designer question there! :-)

Really? Oh that is... well, I don’t know what that is from experience but hope you can enjoy when sound is beautiful and have some nice noise canceling headphones for when it is busy? Can’t make out conversations in busy places myself... I just nod and smile... nod and smile...

Same here - I’ve heard this from a lot of musicians, particularly electronic musicians. I think it’s down to the brain being dedicated to focussing on detail from multiple sources.

I heard many Sound designer have it too. Probably indeed for the reason you mention: Everyting is interesting, needs to be looked at, examined. considered. We hear the music and instruments at the same time. This is helpfull in our craft, but not so much in social skills : )

Since ADHD is something you're born with, it's not that people in these types of jobs develop it - I think it's just that people with ADHD are naturally better at (and therefore listen drawn to) these types of jobs :)
