Women play this delicate dance of 'How do I placate without putting myself at risk?' It's a negotiation of violence. It's purely about power, control, and the punishment of someone who has insulted or withheld. Sex is a tool in this violent exchange. Not the act itself.
100% this. Every time I walk past a man on the street that gives me attention I don't want, I'm evaluating the danger levels & I'm hyper aware of the fact that I'm now playing Russian Roulette. This particular chamber might not be the one with the bullet - but I don't know that.
It really is important to discuss how many smiles, laughs, and gestures like this are not encouragement, but women gauging how much they have to give so the response isn't violent, but also how much they have to withhold to ensure they aren't 'leading them on'.
ALL. THE. TIME. We're simultaneously trying to manage risk/dismantle the potential danger, while also wondering what we did that encouraged it/blaming ourselves for somebody else's behaviours.
