I'm so tired of being the one stepping aside for oncoming men on the street who don't even seem to acknowledge there's a person walking here. New rule: Time to just not. Let's see how many men get surprised and angry when they bump into me, because I didn't step aside for them.

Clarification: This isn't just a "manners" thing. Lately I've become so hyper aware of how it seems to almost always be women stepping aside to make space for men. (And, similarly - yet even more so, I see women of colour regularly stepping aside to make space for white people.)

Ok so apparently "manslamming" is a THING? I was aware that this was something lots of us dealt with, but I didn't realise JUST how prevalent it was! Women: Challenge for the week is to not step aside. Let me know how many times you get slammed into!

Yep, now I'm pissed. Today, in the 10 min walk btwn my flat & the metro I passed 6 older men & 4 women. The 2 first men, I forgot & moved aside. The next 2 I remembered but got awkward last minute & moved. The last 2 I got mad, braced myself - AND THEY BOTH BUMPED INTO ME!

it's a psychological thing, the larger/bigger person is most times the one not moving to the side. so tiny small persons keep dodging the larger ones, wether women or men. We men are just too darn used to not having to move aside... Lack of awareness of our surroundings i assume

Which is odd to me from my own personal perspective considering I am a very overweight guy and I find myself moving out of peoples way most of the time simply because I'm terrified of hurting someone.

it's not only a thing of pure physic but, as I understand and experience it, a subconscious hierarchy thingy. meaning in a matter of second your brain decides wether you move or not. so small or introvert or just in general "less present" people tend to be the ones moving

one could say as well, the one that's more empathic/emotional and in that case more caring for the others not being hurt is the one moving....

This one I 100% agree with. And we as a society definitely nurture young girls into becoming more if this than we do boys. Which is where I think the root of the problem lies, and which is why I still think it's definitely still a gendered issue, despite its other layers...

I absolutely agree. I consider it to be a mostly gender thing, just wanted to highlight a few of the other layers, to diversify the discussion (can I say it this way?).
