I'm so tired of being the one stepping aside for oncoming men on the street who don't even seem to acknowledge there's a person walking here. New rule: Time to just not. Let's see how many men get surprised and angry when they bump into me, because I didn't step aside for them.

Quick tip lift your head and look straight forward, people will move. Don't know why but it works.

I did exactly this today (which was what prompted the tweet). Looked him dead in the eyes as we walked towards each other, but he didn't even acknowledge my existence, and I actually had to step off the curb and into the street to let him pass. I was SO ANGRY.

The key is *not* looking them in the eye. If they're approaching from e.g. your left keep your gaze fixed slightly to the right of their eyeline, and hold that line. If you're about to collide, point your hand in the same direction as your gaze, palm perpendicular to the ground.

This combo should mean the difference between a collision (which the idiot dude will consider your fault and get pissed about) and him reflexively correcting course at the last second.

Assuming he's an asshole, he'll still be mad that you successfully used his reflexes against him, but now he'll also be slightly intimidated. And the fact that you didn't even look him in the eye only adds to the sting.

Must practise...
I am however very well practised on responding to heckles if he does get mad. I'll happily sass him if he says anything!
