I am not usually a rude person BUT, if I am off to the side of the sidewalk and you do not move to your side respectively, I WILL firm up my shoulders & red rover check through. Hockey rules when it comes to jerk pedestrians. Never once was I jostled in Japan; way more people.
I totally noticed this about Japan too, and even pointed it out to @pixelsmixel at the time! We could be on a super crowded street, and would never get bumped into. Huge cultural difference in awareness of the people around you!
Japan is just heaven. Most people I know who have spent time there just ageee, everything is designed to work and the people work to maintain flow and function above personal urgency. My fave place on earth. But yeah the pedestrian thing... walking is hard for some peeps.
Can confirm, having just spent two weeks there... Coming home to Germany has been a very crass experience.

The few times I’ve really done it, people often apologize. I did feel bad when a guy fell once but any ref would side the call with me, standing pick, he fouled on me and just happened to fall :)
I did ask him, “You ok to walk properly now?”
