Quick tip lift your head and look straight forward, people will move. Don't know why but it works.
I did exactly this today (which was what prompted the tweet). Looked him dead in the eyes as we walked towards each other, but he didn't even acknowledge my existence, and I actually had to step off the curb and into the street to let him pass. I was SO ANGRY.
I would have walked straight into him, no respect.
Which is what I'm going to try learn to do... I've grown so accustomed to stepping aside my whole life, while the vaaaast majority of men walking past make no adjustments whatsoever for me.
The key is *not* looking them in the eye. If they're approaching from e.g. your left keep your gaze fixed slightly to the right of their eyeline, and hold that line. If you're about to collide, point your hand in the same direction as your gaze, palm perpendicular to the ground.
This combo should mean the difference between a collision (which the idiot dude will consider your fault and get pissed about) and him reflexively correcting course at the last second.
