If it really is so well intended and they insist that they're just being nice, why don't men tell other men to smile?

We do. At least I tell men, but I am not flirting. You’re getting offended because we are trying to flirt with you. A smiling person is a happy person. A happy person is more apt to hold a conversation and get digits. You’re angry over a guy trying to make your day better?

Also, forcing a smile is quantifiably proven to improve mood. It may be placebo or it could cause the body to naturally release endorphins and other chemicals. It’s why I tell everyone to smile. But hey, I must be a misogynistic patriarchal sexist because I urge you to smile...

If you genuinely want to make a woman’s day better, you should listen to them when they say what would make their day isn’t yet another random guy telling them to smile. It sounds more like you just want to feel good about yourself.

Have you tried smiling? I hear that helps? Also, I feel pretty amazing. Just want other people to share in the joy of life. Not get wrapped up in being offended that someone told me to smile.

That’s great, we need more joy in the world. There are more effective ways to share joy with other people than doing something that they have repeatedly said does not bring them joy. Instead of trying to convince them they’ll like it, why not do something they definitely like?
