Here in the US, unpaid internships are illegal, unless: A.) You're getting course credit for the work, or B.) You are not doing any work that contributes directly to the company's products. It's probably the same in Australia. We were paying my intern, when I worked there.

Yeah, but they may as well be legal because there's almost no enforcement.
