Wont this kind of thing only reinforce the negative stereotypes surrounding women in league? i know the idea comes from a good place, but it just doesn't seem like the best way to go about it to me. Ultimately, if you're scared of the community, ignore them.

Why is learning more about a game feeding into a negative stereotype? This isn’t some activity purely to make women in gaming more accepted - it’s a new avenue for people to learn how to get better at a game they like

My point wasnt that learning is bad and i don't believe that this is an acceptance thing, i mean more in the way the the negative stereotype is that women are bad at league and when riot creates a program dedicated to teaching women league, it serves to reinforce that perspective

im not complaining about the idea of getting women into league, the way i see it, the more the merrier, but i don't think that this is the best way to go about it

Why not? How is creating a space for people who have been harassed to be able to play with people they know won't harass them a bad thing? All we're doing is giving women an opportunity to learn and practise in friendly company.

Doesn't that only create an illusion of a safe space which is then shattered after leaving it? league is a toxic game, regardless of who you are, which im sure ur aware of. Again, cool idea, but it probably wont keep people playing in the long term, after palying on their own imo

Safe spaces in any context are still useful for rest and recovery before re-entering an unsafe space, because sometimes that is the normal environment. That said, although there is a lot of toxicity by players, I would never agree that league is a toxic game in and of itself.

lol the game isnt inherantly toxic, the community that has built up around it is, although it has been better in recent years, so maybe in more time i wont have the same opinion but as for now, i would say that the community is ultimately toxic, and for me, ignoring has been best

Glad you’ve found a way to manage it. I usually ignore, and sometimes call out someone for going too far - hopefully we can eventually swing the balance the other way in time.

i completely agree, my personal belief is that there will always be vitriolic people and that we can try to change them or we can learn to recognise and ignore such behaviour, that just seems more like a more practical solution to me, even if not ideal

For sure, we can't change everybody. But something we CAN do is create temporary environments that work for *us*, here and now, while we learn and practise and get more confident. Which is what we're doing :)

but there in lies the issue, its temporary, im not saying what you are doing is bad, nor am i saying that it wont help people, but again, it provides fodder to those who already would harass a female LoL player more fuel to do so
