Honestly, this is why we NEED progressive leaders. We need to move on from concepts of biblical punishment to a system of compassion. On that note, I think a Universal Basic Income could help resolve many of the reasons crimes are committed in the first place.

Yep totally agreed. Also I think the term 'biblical punishment' is an interesting one, as the entire New Testament is about compassion... One would really have hoped western conservatives would have implemented that, considering the NT is the entire basis of Christianity.

True dat. Sadly I think religion - when applied in a conservative context - is more often a smokescreen of justifications for abusive control and bigotry, rather than a prescriptive redress on how to improve society. There are no more cherries, Anna... They've all been picked.
