Something to do with just natural strengthening of the nail bed. Like conditioning almost. Lol

Oh my god! That's actually so great... I doubt mine would end up that strong though, as they've always had a habit of chipping and breaking 
So did mine. I find that a couple of coats of UV gel polish helps to prevent that
