My friend told me the best thing! I had previously told him that whenever I speak at events and the organisers refer to us as girls (eg. "ok girls, you can put your things over there" etc) I smile and politely say "We're not children... You can refer to us as women, or ladies."

It’s crazy how infantilizing language is used for women and POC, and once you become aware of it you hear it everywhereeee. I’ve even been to “women in X”events and heard that from the moderators. I love that you call people out in the moment & that it’s had this ripple effect

For sure! It's so normalised, and yet once you start noticing it, it's like nails on a chalkboard! Thank you, and I'm glad that you're aware and speaking up about it too
