My friend told me the best thing! I had previously told him that whenever I speak at events and the organisers refer to us as girls (eg. "ok girls, you can put your things over there" etc) I smile and politely say "We're not children... You can refer to us as women, or ladies."

to which they usually are a little taken aback at first, but agree and immediately correct their language. So my friend said that he'd told his partner (who is a sex worker) the story, and that she'd then gone and told the same story to all the women at her brothel -

AND NOW ALL THE WOMEN AT THE BROTHEL REFUSE TO BE CALLED GIRLS, THEY ALL INSIST ON BEING CALLED LADIES OR WOMEN - both with clients as well as with each other!
