How to heal fresh tattoos perfectly using Opsite/Saniderm/etc.
These are breathable transparent films that tattoo artists now recommend putting on fresh tattoos to make the healing process FASTER & EASIER!
Here's a step-by-step guide as I keep getting asked about it.

Note: Colour tattoos and black/greywash tattoos heal differently!
Colour tattoos tend to weep/ooze for the first 24h, so for these it's best to apply Opsite the next morning.
For black/grey tattoos, it's fine to apply the Opsite the same night before bed.Pokaż ten wątek -
As most of my tattoos are colour, before bed on the first night I'll simply wash & dry (with paper towels) & then let air dry completely. Apply a thin layer of Bepanthen/Hustle Butter & wrap with clingwrap. A paper towel around the base keeps the ooze from leaking onto bedsheets.pic.twitter.com/WN43aT7216

To apply the Opsite:
First wash your hands and then your new tattoo, with unscented soap. Dry with paper towels, and then let it air dry completely.

Clean the area AROUND the fresh tattoo with rubbing alcohol. This strips the surrounding skin of its natural oils and helps the Opsite stick really well to your skin for several days! (#HAXX!)pic.twitter.com/U9pHXXoEehPokaż ten wątek -
Cut a strip of Opsite that is slightly larger than your tattoo.
If your tattoo is really big, you can cut smaller strips and overlap them so that they cover the whole thing. If it's a bendy body part (eg shoulder) use several smaller strips to make it easier. (Trust me!)pic.twitter.com/xjKoA0Ddrg

Remove half the backing paper, apply the Opsite slowly from one end, and remove the second half as you roll the rest onto your skin, avoiding air bubbles as much as you can. (This is easier with smaller pieces of Opsite!)
Then remove the protective plastic over the top.pic.twitter.com/7cHLNljeau

If you get any air bubbles, don't worry. Clean a needle, carefully pierce the film (sideways, so you don't risk hurting yourself), squeeze out the air, and cover the hole with a small piece of fresh Opsite. Simple!

You can now COMPLETELY IGNORE your fresh tattoo for the next 3-4 days! ISN'T THAT GREAT?!

No need to wash/dry/moisturise multiple times per day. No need to worry about it sticking to clothes. No need to worry about it getting dirty. No need to worry about it in the shower.Pokaż ten wątek -
After 3-4 days, you can peel the Opsite off in a warm shower. It will be slow and prob a bit painful, but don't worry - this is normal. The top layer of dead skin will all peel off in the next few days, like a sunburn. Your tattoo underneath should now be healed!

For the next few days while the dead skin flakes off, feel free to moisturise with a normal light body cream to help soften the skin. (I personally love Hustle Butter, but at this point it's up to you what you prefer, as the tattoo itself is healed.)
That's it.

General advice: Don't stress!
Your tattoo will be swollen, sore, red, achy, etc for a day or two. You have an open wound on your skin; that's normal.
Human bodies are really good at healing themselves. You'd have to screw up REALLY hard to screw up a tattoo!Pokaż ten wątek -
On that note, I've had 2 tattoos get infected before. It's rare but it happens. Again, don't stress. Go see a doctor. The tattoo's ink is in a deeper layer of your skin & should be unaffected. With proper care, the tattoo should still turn out fine!Pokaż ten wątek -
Most artists include a free touch-up for their tattoos within a few weeks of it being done. If any ink has dropped out, call the shop & you should be able to get it fixed up! Enjoy your beautiful new body art!

Make sure to always wear SPF50 on it so it doesn't fade!
