Like many others, I'm super excited about an esports event for women, but I too hate the term 'girl gamer'. It is archaic and infantalising.

I still wonder why there is a difference between women and men in gaming? Does it imply they cannot react quick enough like a man or have an aiming issue or cannot be that tactical? Myself got beaten up by a lady and her AWP in CS & demorailzed in C&C Red and it´s fine.

Nah, it's because 'male' is assumed by a lot of people to be the default gender when referring to gamers. Women who play games (i.e. half the population, or something) are seen as a divergence from the norm and so require a modifier for clarity. It's ridiculous.
