This is the first I’ve heard of it so started researching, and seems they’re marketing mostly though yoga Instagram? Inconclusive if placebo, one study said it doesn’t help long term pain (some brands claim all sorts of benefits). If it is placebo, a cheap one would work, too.

I don't think it's placebo (that's an ironic statement haha) I think it might loosen up your muscles and move your blood around, kinda like a massage... Maybe, I dono, I'm not expert.

Yea, it seems to have some science-y basis. It stimulates a pain response by the sound of it, so that's something. The acupuncturists will tell you it's not remotely comparable to actually getting acupuncture, ofcourse. haha

It's acupressure, not acupuncture. Two very different things :) And from somebody who has tried both a "proper" mat and a cheaper eBay one - the only difference was that the eBay one wasn't as sharp, and so therefore wasn't as impactful.
