I feel like some people need to be aware that sometimes real pockets are sewn up! So you just need to unpick the stitching at the top. The amount of times I have come across people who weren’t aware of this makes me feel the need to add this here.
Who in Satan's diabolical name would sell jeans with the pockets sewn shut?! That's even worse!

Not just jeans, it’s a common thing to have them stitched up in store to prevent people putting gross things in there

So usually you just have to unpick a single stitch :) sometimes you can even just pull them apart.
