game audio seems to reset between patches for some players and not for others. the sounds can be devastating when youre not expecting it
Oh I totally know how to fix this, as this was something that infuriated me too! Do all of your sound tweaks in the in-game Sound settings - NOT your PC settings. That way they'll save for every time you update the client!

That worked for me when I tried it a while ago, and I’ll preach it onto my friends again. Do you think this might still be an issue? League isn’t the only app that we use that updates, but it is the only one that doesn’t save OS side sound settings.
