Absolutely, I've been harassed & assaulted in first world countries too. This particular comment was regarding the sheer frequency of catcalls while here, as it has been at an astounding rate. The attitudes towards women here are incredibly different to eg. Cali, where you are.

What I do think is, without successful feminist movements and such, men are a lot more prone to show their ignorance/lack of respect. The consequences are a lot smaller in my home country and other third world countries. Less undercover predators. More overt tho

For sure. And for that reason, it's so important for men to be having feminist discussions amongst themselves, and for men to be calling out their friends eg when they see then doing/saying problematic things towards women. Sadly it's the only way some men will listen and learn.
