I just watched it and the whole thing is so sad and tragic...I was wondering exactly this....how "normal" or common is all this?...

There's never an excuse for domestic violence. Where are the criminal/social services going wrong in terms of support? Maybe not doing enough to highlight risks of the honeymoon phase - a key point in breaking the cycle. We need more awareness, more ads, more anon hotlines.

The cycle of violence needs to be taught in schools and spoken about in the open. People need to understand every stage and the psychology of both victim and abuser.
