I would argue that the Australian film industry has similar requirements, and yet hosts multiple events (both industry and consumer facing) in multiple states across the year. There must be a way we can spread this stuff out so people don't FOMO themselves into oblivion. 6/7

As an interstate visitor, i find that the majority of costs go into accommodation, so if there were more opportunities around conferences for visitors to stay longer while on a budget, i think that would go a long way.

When i went to linux.conf 2017 in Hobart, the University of Tasmania had a very cheap accommodation deal that included breakfast for attendees that made it very feasible to stay a full week. I imagine that kind of thing can’t be replicated in Melbourne though?
