What are some of the most frustrating UX experiences you've encountered while trying to start playing a new game? Conversely, what part of the onboarding experience do you think games generally tend do better than apps?

Good games build upon the idea that learning (friction) gives players a sense of accomplishment. Apps tend to fall into a trap of trying to remove all that in a race to the bottom (cheap engagement).

Would that really class as "cheap" though? I don't want any friction at all when using an app, whereas I totally agree that it serves a purpose in games. When using an app, I never once want to struggle and overcome something - like with games - I just want to DO. Effortlessly.
