Too many onboards at once? - so showing the player a tutorial for every system in the game when they first open the app without any play time. Super annoying and unnecessary and I don’t understand the value of said systems bc I haven’t played yet so 
What are some of the most frustrating UX experiences you've encountered while trying to start playing a new game? Conversely, what part of the onboarding experience do you think games generally tend do better than apps?

Totally agreed. I hate it when this happens - all you're doing is overwhelming your user, who is only able to retain, process and put value into 7 bits of information at once. Feeling overwhelmed is generally not an ideal state for users to be in.

Destiny 2 does this pop-up toasts for on boarding tooltips. Takes up the bottom 15% of your screen, covers your ammo counter completely. Doesn’t dismiss until you do the specific thing it’s telling you about, so can hang out forever. Drives. Me. Crazy.

Wow. I haven't played it myself, but that sound infuriatingly painful. Generally speaking, players hate being told what to do - and if it's actively hindering useful information on the HUD, that's even WORSE!

No ability to adjust opening sequence audio. which has music set to 11 and even after I finally get access to the settings and adjust the audio. The opening of the game and title page is still set to 11.

Omg yes, this actually happens with every League of Legends patch, and it's kind of the worst. I'll fix up all my audio settings - and every 2 weeks when the new patch is released... RIP my ears.

It's sort of duh but games can have a much easier path to connecting with they user on an emotional level, and users retain lessons learned better when there is this sort of bond.

just thinking about this today - portal 2 onboarding. It's purposefully confusing and backwards because it assumes players have had previous experiences - which is the biggest problem for games. Not accommodating to people who may be picking up a controller for the first time.
