West Side Story is bombastic homage to the original that feels big in the right places. I especially loved the natural flow between languages in the dialogue. Mike Faist and Ariana DeBose especially are magnetic, radiating pure energy BUT the central love story failed to grab me.
Ansel Elgort as Tony just brings it all down. He's got the charisma of an expired clam and seems incapable to expressing an emotion onscreen that's not smirking. Surrounded by so much shining talent, he really flops.
